Spelling

Give me a break

To motivate my children to study their spelling words, I test them on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. As soon as a child gets every one right, he is done for the week. He can then choose to do the next weeks list or just take a break for whatever is left of the present week They work hard to get everything right on Monday.

To spell or what to spell

I tried using spelling lists but I found to many gaps in the method. My children either found them too easy, or too hard, or the words were not in their vocabulary. So, I took the words from their journals or writing assignments. That way they learn to spell words that are already a part of their vocabulary that they are having problems with. I think that if a child is reading
