How Will You Vote?

Jim Sevy

This year offers all of us in the United States the opportunity to choose a new President and elect Congressman and Senators as well as deal with important state and local issues, such as California’s Proposition 22. This is a way for everyone to get involved and to contribute to our society. I recently answered an Internet survey about the 2000 election. The questions were focused at determining whether I was a conservative or a liberal, a republican or democrat, involved or not. After the multiple-choice questions were complete, they asked for my comments on the coming year in general. This is the way I replied:

“It will be a frustrating exercise. At times it seems difficult to tell the difference between the Republicans and the Democrats; both parties seem to believe that the federal government should solve all of the countries problems. It will be frustrating to me because I believe that the federal government should stick to the duties explicitly outlined in the constitution and all existing laws that push those limits should be reviewed. For example, the Interstate Commerce clause has been severely abused by all three branches of the federal government. “

Then I determined that in order for me to deal with the frustration I needed to determine what I would base my decision on. So I listed the criteria that would help me determine how I would select candidates that I would vote for. Here is the list I came up with.

  • I will support candidates that believe in a federal government that is limited to the constitutional duties outlined in the constitution.
  • I will support candidates that will strive to remove the government's involvement with the Family and that will legislate is such a way as to promote individual responsibility, rather than victim-hood.
  • I will support candidates that believe in my sovereignty, as well as their own and that of others.
  • I will support candidates that will support the teaching of "Truth", whether it is, scientific, religious, or philosophical.
  • I will support candidates that support individual liberty.
  • I will support candidates that are moral, ethical and righteous.
  • I will support candidates that believe that mankind can make progress individually and as a society based on their liberty and their righteousness and that we don't have to settle for "Peace" or "Safety" at the cost of the ability to exercise our God given free will.

I encourage you to consider what qualifications you will require of those you choose to vote for. This is the fundamental way for us to get involved.
